I want to replace water pump but can not any bolt that is suppose to hold shift linkage to shift rod. The shift linkage looks like a 2 prong fork with the notched end of the shift rod between the forks, but I see no bolt. Can someone help.
Thanks Nick North Wildwood

I found your instructions they are very good. But I see no bolt. The top of the shift rod is notched and fits between a twin shift linkage. Can not locate any bolt at top of shift rod. thank You for your reply.

I have a 1973 85 HP...but after reviewing the schematic for your engine, suspect yours is the same set up.

The shift rod extends up the exhaust housing, and connects to the engine just below the carbs.
I found mine when looking from the starboard side...look under and behind the carbs. I then removed a bolt holding the shift linkage to the block, which allows you to spread the arms holding the pin to the shift rod. I could then reach in with a long needle nose pliers to remove the pin/bolt which is holding the shift rod to the shift linkage. Good luck...not really difficult...just irritating.

Excellent work ngimpel! Many people are stumped on this process...and it is difficult to explain without a diagram.
