Hi!
I'm new on this great forum.
I'm a newbe when it comes to outboard motors, but I have quite some experience with chevy V8's since I'm a lucky owner of a -71 Corvette. So with a little help from you guy's...........
As I'm situated in Sweden with an old Suzuki DT75 motor from -83 (07501-301128) and it's nearly impossible to find parts or help here, I really need expert opinions on this tricky issue!
I recently bought this old motor and of cource I got screwed up by the seller.
The motor was on the ground so I couldnt run it, but I could at least test the compression (it was great) 140 PSI on all three cyl.
The motor was rebuilt for some years ago and really looks good, you can see it as there are new gaskets on both sides of the powerhead.
Ok here is my problem:
The seller said he just took it of a boat and it was running fine last week, except for some gas coming from the cabs intake (dirt in the bowls, easy fixed) and very little water in the lower unit (a new seal kit will probably fix this)
I believed him, but that was a big misstake!
When I tryed to mount the shift cables I could see that the cables didnt fit, the shifting stroke did bottom due to wrong cable ends.
I fixed the cable ends and I thought everything was ok.
But it was impossible to get the forward gear to stay in place, and the reverse gear didnt work at all.
I dismounted the lower unit from the motor.
Then I removed the thin housing from the upper of the lower unit.
I could see that the pin's holding the upper shift rod to the shift cam was broken!
How is the pin's mounted?
Is it possible to remove the shift cam without dismount the lower unit?
I also guess I also should replace all the lower unit's seals as the seller said that there was some water in the gear housing.
What tools do I need to remove the propeller and the propeller shaft housing?
What will likely be my biggest challange if/when dismount the lower unit?
