shift rod interchange question 83 70 hp to 84 60 hp

A friend of mine has a 1984 johnson 60 hp, j60tlcre with a bad lower unit. I have an 83 evinrude 70 hp, e70elcte with a bad powerhead but a good lower unit. I looked in the top secret files and it looks like they are will interchange, but i'm not sure about the shift rods or the shift rod heights. On the brp website they list two different p/n for the shift rods. I don't have the 60 hp lower unit to compare as it was removed before the motor was delivered to me.
Is this a direct interchange or is there some differences that i will have to account for? Thanks for the help.

the lower gearbox will fit take his shaft from under the carburetor together with his shaft going to gearbox , take your shaft that goes under the carb out & fit his you may just need to make a spacer some where , take an old fishing rod & cut a spacer from there , thats what i will do , the sharfts are the same length just the connections are slightly different where it meets up with the shft coming from under the carb , just swop them
