When servicing the water pump and attempting the reassembly of the lower unit we had the lower shift rod in the wrong position once we figure that out and took the lower unit back off now the shift rod doesn't engage anything inside the gear case it just spins and only moves up and down about an eighth of an inch. Is this lower unit toast or is there something I can do to reset or fix this thank you
