Shift rod lever assembly query

Hi Guys,

Evinrude 1990 90hp v4 engine

Carrying out a rebuild on the above at the minute and am currently installing shift rod lever. I am not sure if i have lost a component or not. Have a look at the attached picture, is there another part supposed to be on the lever to keep the shift rod connected or does the part on end of shaft hold the rod on its own?

figured it out in the end there was a bushing still insude the lever rod tube on the inlet manifold, just couldnt see it at first as it was turned facing the wrong direction.
