I have a worn out swivel pin so i need to replace it and as I look at the motor it seems like a pretty easy fix all except for the shift rod that runs through the swivel pin. Before I rip it apart I want to make sure I am able to get that shift rod out from the bottom. I have been searching on line and it seems like a 25 hp engine you can unclip it from the top near the starter and it will slide out the bottom pretty easy with the lower unit but when I watch videos on the 50 hp engines it has a jam nut type system that lets you disconnect the shift rod just about the lower unit which will not help me. Does anyone know if you can get the shift rod out completely from the bottom of the engine like the 25 hp or would i have to disassemble the top of the engine to make this happen?
