Hi, I am trying to replace my water pump and I have bought the service manual, but the photo describing where the bolt that you are supposed to take loose to drop the lower unit is not clear. Can someone give a good description of what and where I am looking for?

Re: Shift Rod Screw Location

I don't know exactly which system is on your motor, but its one of two. You either have a hitch pin thru the horizontal linkage on the starboard side of the motor that you pull out and then shove the linkage toward the port side of the motor. or your have a 3/8head bolt connecting the shift rod to the shift linkage at the front base of the powerhead. Its hard to get to and even harder to see. If your cowling pan is 2 piece (I don't think it is) then split it and you will be able to see under there. There is a lot of hoses and the VRO pump and even the starter in the way on some motors.
You think getting it disconnected is hard, just wait til you are ready to hook it all back up.
