I am going to replace the W/P impellor on this motor (No power trim) and whilst looking at the bottom cowling where the shift shaft comes out when changing from forward to neutral, it drops about 1/4" and there is a splined end that fits into the lever in the cowling. (Item 9)
I have 2 questions. 1. Is is possible for the whole shift shaft to fall out of the lever when removing the L/U and should I wedge something in the top tapered end to stop it droppnig out? 2 How do you check/replace to reverse lock cam as mine occasionally jams up and needs a gentle tap with a hammer. The Clymer manual is very vague and not worth the paper it's written on.
