shift shaft removal

the other day i posted a question under the title "alarm". i got great responses, but one of them said to remove the shift shaft. im new to outboard maintenance so im unsure of both where & how to do this.
i will be greatfull for any help.

I'm not sure what motor we're talking about. Post your year, make, and model and someone will surely be able to tell you. There's a few ways to disconnect the shift shaft according to what model you have.
