Upon my springtime inspection, I have found that my Shifter Bellows is cracked. Can this be replaced by just pulling the shifter cable back and putting a new bellows in? Somehow that just sounds too easy. I am not a boat mechanic, but do have some experience. Is this a job better left to a professional?

MArk

Yea, you made it sound too easy. You have to completely remove the shift cable to replace the bellows. If you notice, it goes into the pivot housing (aka bellhousing) where the drive attaches first. Then through the bellows and into the engine compartment.
IF that cable is over 5 years old, replace it when you replace the bellows. If you ever have to replace the shift cable again, replace the shift cable bellows at that time..... On any Mercruiser drive.

Ok Thanks Don,

I'll take a closer look this weekend to decide if it's something I can handle.

Mark
