I am in the process of replacing the lower unit seals and bearings on my 75hp 1981 Evinrude 20" shaft. It's been 2+ weeks since I tore the lower unit down and have been waiting on the parts. I am ready to reassemble the LU but I have a question about the Shifter Dog Thrust Washer. I have two different exploded parts view of the gearcase and one of the views shows the Shifter Dog Thrust Washer going on the Reverse Gear side of the Shift Dog, the other parts view shows the Shifter Dog Thrust Washer going on the Forward Gear side of the Shifter Dog. Does anyone know the correct position for the washer?
Keep in mind this is the Shifter Dog Thrust Washer NOT the larger Thrust Bearing and Washer that fit on the shaft of the Forward and Reverse Gears.

Reverse gear. Check the gear. Should have an indentation for the washer to set in.

EDIT: This is a long shaft?

EDIT the EDIT: Just reread your post. Long shaft.

Re: Shifter Dog Thrust Washer

Thanks for your help, the Reverse Gear does have an indentation for the washer to set in.
The shaft is a standard 20" shaft.
