i have a 82 50hp johnson that the shifter lever broke. it is the rod that runs from the left side of the motor to the right side under the powerhead and connects to the shifter rod that goes the the lower unit. what is the best way to remove this rod. Is it best to unbolt the powerhead and lift the powerhead up. If so, does it just unbolt and lift up. is there any unseen problems in need to know about. any help would be appreciated.

Thanks
Chris

How did that steel shaft break ??-------Or is it just the bracket on the end broken, that bracket would be an easy fix.

Not sure how it broke. Wouldn't go in to reverse at the end of a hunt so headed back to the ramp. Made it bake to the ramp them I lost toward and reverse. Upon Inspection at home I seen the broken part. The shaft itself didn't break. It broke where the flat bar attaches to the shaft on the starboard side of the motor.

From here it looks like you'll have to pull the power head to replace that shaft.
