shifter/throttle question

i have a 75hp, 1985, 4 cyl merc ob mtr. while running it today i could hear a "humming" sound coming from the gear shifter/throttle. any ideas, thoughts?

Hi,

Generally,a steady buzzer is overheat,and a on off buzzer is low oil warning
You may have a sic buzzer so it sounds funny.
