shifting hard

when i put it in forward it bangs into gear a little harder than i would like. it bangs a little harderwhen going into reverse. any thoughts

Howdy,

If the engine RPM also increases before it finally goes into gear, you probably need to replace the lower shift cable (because it may be binding)

They'll "bang" going into gear also if the idle RPM is too high. (should be around 650RPM or less)

It would be nice to know what you have (year/model/serial)
