ok so i have been fighting issues with my outdrive shifting or at least going into both gears. Before it only had reverse, that was my bad:facepalm: I got that fixed and i know it will go into both gears now by manually shifting the cable that going directly into the out drive, that all seem to works fine. then i hooked it back up to the controlls and all i would have is foward. i went to try it again after gping through the adjustment process, then my controll lever went down to about 7 o' clock and i could feel it trying to catch. i tore the controlls apart only to find that the splines in the handle are broken. a chunk fell on the deck.

so my question is could my controlls be causing my shifting issues??
where could i find the spline to replace them or would i be better off with a hole new set of controlls?

the omc handle might work, but probably not

you would be better off finding a used merc handle, as most of the older stuff is NLA

you could go aftermarket but those controls are usually junk

The control is one thing, are your remote shift cables good? Sounds like it needs further adjustment as well...

there is a good possiability they coulduse futher adjustment. After my controll handle did what it did i walked away from it, then i had to go back over the road for the week. I am hoping to be able to look at the omc controlls to see if they will work but since i have very little experance working with them that is why i am asking here if any one know if they would

Ayuh,... Yer lower shift cable is Worn, Internally...
That makes it throw a shorter distance, because of the internal Slop...

Replace the Lower shift cable, 'n put yer controller back together...

Re: shifting issues, controlls???

my current controller will not work as the splines on the handle are all but smooth. That is why i am asking about the omc controlls wanting to know if they will work? my plan is after i get the controlls to work again then i will tackle the lower shift cable. b t w how much of a p i a is the lowere shift cable to do? any "special" tools required?
