i have a probelming shifting in reverse going in to forward works fine. but when i try and put into reverse it just makes a loud taping/rattleing noise. and if i wait long enough it slam's into reverse but ive only done that one or twice but do not want to do anymore because infear of missing up my clutch dog. Ive tried missing with trotle cables:confused: but not seeming to help any. Im thinking might be in my control box but have not open that up to see yet. If any one can help or give me some hints on this would be great.

if cablle is original may need replacing. or if the outer sheath is cracked or split. if the lower unit had not been off, i would suspect this.

disconnect cable at motor, shift motor manually, it either has to be running, or you will have to turn the prop when shifting, so the gears mesh. if it shifts correctly, you have bad cable or cable adjustment.

cable adjustments. place motor in neutral, throttle at idle. now place shifter in neutral and idle.

now you match the cables to the MOTOR, without moving motor connectors. adjusting the trunion nuts on the cable.

you adjust cable to MOTOR, not MOTOR to cable.
