Shifting problem

I have a 99 model 50hp spl Evinrude, I've had the lower unit rebuilt but now it seems like my shift cable is stretched, when it's adjusted to the center of the slop it will not go into forward or reverse if I adjust it to where it will go into forward it will not go into reverse and vice versa. What do y'all think? And do they make a control box with the throttle and shifter on separate levers?

Sounds like a bad shift cable.

Yessir your probably right, it's on a 20 ft Lowe pontoon fun and fish, is this something a backyard mechanic like me can handle or should a shop do it?

If you've never worked on boats before I'd take it to a shop. But that's up to you.
