I installed a new throttle/shifting control box on my 1997 Mercrusier Alpha One with 4.0 v6.
It works "perfectly" in my driveway.
I put it in the water.
Start the boat. From neutral, put in reverse boat travels back. Shift to neutral? Remains in reverse.
Shut down. Restart, in neutral. Put in forward gear boat moves forward. Neutral position? Boat stays in forward gear.
Shut down? Boat starts in neutral. Shift forward? Boat moves forward. Shift to neutral position? Boat continues forward in gear.
Restart. From neutral? Cannot put in reverse gear.
What is wrong? The control box is connected correctly. I think it's adjustment needed.

Check adjustment on lower shift cable. May need to replace it

Why does my boat shift perfectly in the driveway but, in the water, no go. Now.? Reverse only and won't come without killing the engine. No forward st all.

It appears the shift interrupter is not engaging. Are the wires still connected? With the engine running try pushing on the lever where the roller sits in the “V” notch.

I didn't replace that one...nor did I change its adjustment.
Of the 3 cables. The lower shift cable is the one that needs adjustment checked often and is the one that usually needs replacement
