I am selling a motor on ebay and need some suggestions on the shipping. I am in Texas and need to know who to call about shipping it and where I can buy a Crate to ship it. Thanks in advance.

Re: Shipping a Motor?

I bought a 115hp 'Rude last year from someone advertising right here in iboats'classifieds. I found that Yellow Freight had the best price. It shipped from South Carolina to Maryland. Just call them and they will pick up at your house. The seller picked up a wooden pallet from his work and strapped the motor to the pallet. It arrived without damage. Bert :D

i just sold an 18hp 'rude to a guy in conn.ups was by far the cheapest.but, the package had to be under 150lbs. and can be no larger than 130 inches.the 130 inches is the sum of the total length plus the distance around the package at its biggest girth.i know it sounds confusing.my motor plus the crate weighed 110 lbs.and the cost to conn. from ne montana was only 75.00.i "custom "built my own crate.

dstuard,
I just sold and shipped a 59 Johnson V4 Fat Fifty to a fellow in Portland, Oregon. Sent it via ABF Freight Service, cost the buyer $176. That monster weighed 250 lbs....325 with the pallet and crate. ABF gave me the pallet and I built a box around it after I laid it down and tied it to the pallet. You can get a $20 discount at each end if you drop it at their terminal and if the buyer picks it up at their terminal. They have a freight calculator on their website: I think it is:
www.abfs.com but may be wrong.

you might be able to get a use factory engine pallet from a dealer, if they sell many engines they will probably be happy to give you as many as you can haul. those pallets really stack up and are hard to fit in a dumpster. we cut up ten or more a week. :)

ups also has a freight division now for the over 150# and over 130" packages. its a $159 minimum charge.not sure if I would go with the cheapest...I get good prices from estes express but they seem to damage everything they ship.also a pallet will do but make sure its banded down well & the pallet is larger than the motor so nothing sticks out.
