1971 50 HP Johnson. Had motor gone thru at a repair shop. and tested in the lake yesterday. After starting I felt a slight BUZZ at the throtle and then pushed off the dock which has a metat pileing. It was like a shot from a taiser knocked me off my seat. . ran boat for a while and was ok ,just made sure i did not ground myself. Boat motor has a new pulse pack and new coils and a carb rebuild. ?????????? YIKES Ed in Mt Vernon Wa.

Does the ignition switch work properly as far as start and stop. You may want to check all the ground wires on the mtr for being clean and tight.

Yup! My guess would be a bad ground from/to the power pack. Does the motor quit immediately when you turn the key off, or does it keep running for a few seconds? If so I guarantee your problem is a bad ground. Been there.
