Last Saturday between some rain and gulf spray things got a little wet on my 17 Montauk with the 90hp Evinrude. I noticed that when my hand was on the Stainless wheel and the controls I would receive a small tingle type shock. This is the first time I've ever noticed this and I've had the boat out about 5 times since I purchased it. Any comments, test or suggestions.

Re: Shocking

It sure could happen. There's a real hot wire in the control. It's the one that gets grounded when you turn the switch off. I don't know if it's a full 350vac but it could be. That's the reason your ignition key is insulated so well.

c/6

Hooty

I should have added especially if everything was real damp.

c/6

Hooty

I believe you have a poor ground. On what, who knows. check all your ground straps. Could also be a faulty device like a gauge. this is how you can find it. Get a multimeter and put the black lead on the negative side of the battery. Then touch the red lead to various things near the area you got shocked. gauges, trim pieces etc. until you see more then 2-3 volts. once you find that all you need to do is tie that item to ground with a ground strap. Now remember.. some devices can "leak". Internally they may be slightly shorted(on there way south) to there casing. Then when you touch it with your left hand and your right hand is on ground... you get that sensation cause you are being used as a human resistor!
