Folks,

My question is: What is the best shop manual for a 82' Johnson 140 with Tilt&Trim, extended shaft Model (B) or (D) can't make out the last digit on the number.

Explination:
I started with "I'll just replace the deck", over two years later, new stringers, deck, transom, you know the story.... Well by this time the motor has been sitting, when I "parked" it there was a problem with some component heating up and causing the motor to drop to an idle after about 45 minutes of running. Before I put the motor and all its associated parts back on I would like to go over it as best I can.

Motor hasn't been run int two years plus, I will be looking for advise on the best route to fix the heating up problem and how to get this thing ready after sitting for so long.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Cheers.

Seloc or Clymer each has it's good points. I use a manual that covers 1973-1990 48-235hp which is not too bad and I supplement it with advice from this forum.

Hmmm...sitting two years well, I would start with the impellar, thermostats, compression test, clean the carbs, yeah get the manual. You might have encountered a electrical problem 2 years ago.

Good luck,

Bob

Ed,

The manufacturers manual is the best. Keep checking e-bay. There are always lots of them on there. Use "outboard manual" as your search.

Hooty,

Thanks for the info, went to their site, they say they only provide manuals for 1979 and older, I have an 82'. I am going to give them a call anyway, maybe something has changed or they can get it.

Thanks again.

Will advise.

Cheers.

emp.

Clymer manual is prety good.

I suspect that you model has some form of rpm limiting when the block hits 200f does a hooter sound when it drops the rpm's?

Replace the impeller, check the thermostats and presure valves. How much salt is in there as well?

Carbs will need to be cleaned and fresh gas helps. Clean out the fuel tank as well.

Even in 80f water it should not get very hot.
