Shore power extension cord?

I would like to have a "pigtail" coming off my boat that I plug my shore power into (instead of going directly into the boat). It's a PITA to get in where the cord connects (it's in the trunk, and there's a lot of crap in there) and I'd rather just leave a little 6' "whip" connected all the time, and then connect that whip to my 50' power cord from the shore.

It's 30A 120V service, my existing cords is the standard MarinCo 50'er.

Thanks!

Re: Shore power extension cord?

That's a little more than I want to get into. :) And I really like the location of my current connector (it's totally hidden and out of the way), I just want to connect to it without going in the trunk to get at the locking ring.

Can I just get a "short" 30A cord and connect my existing cord to that with a sealing ring? Is that all their is to it?

Does a Aluminum spring loaded & gasketed outdoor 2 gang box, meet basic marine safety codes ? Home Depot electrical department stuff?

Sure, you can buy 10 Ga 3 conductor cable, and get the right connectors and make your own short extension cord any length you want.

In most cases, no. Start a new thread of your own if you have more questions.

Re: Shore power extension cord?

So a male and female end of a 30A cord will connect together (like a regular extension cord)? I wasn't sure if they were made to do that. Does anyone make a pre-made cable in about a 6' length. Seems that Marineco has one that's 12', and they have right angle pigtail adapter, but neither of those is really right for my application. As you can see, my connection is all the way at the bottom of my trunk in the back of the boat, I'd really like to not have to go in there anymore to hook up the shore cable (just leave it hooked up to this connector and then, when ready to connect to power, just pull a small length of cable out of the trunk).
