I have a 14 foot Jon boat with a short shaft motor installed, came across a long shaft with recommended horse power for the boat. I am wondering what i would have to do if anything on installing the long shaft. Short shaft presently works fine. Would i have to install a jack plate that i know nothing about?

Please tell us what engine.
It may be very simple to convert it to a 15" shaft, dependent on the type and year of engine.

Some long shaft motors are made by adding a spacer and a longer drive shaft.

However the 25 hp Evinrude isnt made that way.

Jackplate would be some of an investment compared to your motor offer, unless you will get it very cheap or free. It is possible to build the transom 5" higher with plywood and glassfiber.

I would recommend this job if you want the motor.

Unless you're worried about 5" more of shallow water, you probably won't notice a difference between the 25 long and short on that boat. Running the long won't hurt anything. I'd leave it alone or at least try it first.

I do not understand this motor perhaps someone does. The shaft length is close to 32 inches long from u clamp bracket. It has a 5to6 inch spacer above the bottom unit that makes it that long. I do not understand why it would be necessary to length a long shaft motor. How much trouble would i have to undo what has been done?
