I thought that short shaft typically is 20" midsection. Long shaft is 25" and the rare long-long shaft is 30".

Is that right? I'm getting confused while looking at used motors. I think people are calling their motors by the wrong designation.

to the best of my knowledge, my johnson/evenrude 9.9 hp 15 was short, 20 was long and 25 was extra long

I think you are right. 15-20-25" is common dimensions. Not 20-25-30 as I listed. My bad!
