I was wondering if it is possible to put a short shaft motor on a long transom boat. I was thinking of using a mini jack plate and just putting it so the vent plate is even with bottom of boat. Is this practical and do you see any problems arising? Thanks

motor getting swamped, when stopping quickly, or other boats wake. will have to use a backset jackplate, to get clearance between transon and front of motor. it is much easier, to use a long shaft on a short shaft transom, than what you are trying. you have to be able to tilt the motor.

Actually it's done all the time. Some boat / motor combos work real well like that. Some hulls are intended to work with a shorter motor, just depends on hull design mainly.

What exactly are you working with? It's impossible to answer without knowing.

You are only talking 5 inches in most cases, a common jack plate may well be all that you need. (Most 25" motors have enough mounting positions to raise the motor up high enough to handle a 20" transom).
Just make sure the transom you are bolting the jack plate to is sound and not rotted.
