Howdy All, I have a 1968 Evinrude Bid Twin 40hp short shaft motor that I would like to convert to a long shaft. I figure all I need is the longer drive shaft, shift linkage, water tube and the extension plate for the lower unit.
Is there anything else that I am forgetting?

Thanksd:)

The hardware, especially the long bolt for the back. A skirt extension if ya wanna keep it purty.

There is an extension tube that takes up the space normally filled by the water pump, with two o-rings around it. It won't run with the hood on if you leave that out. Also, it takes two water tubes, not one. You'll need 6 more stainless steel bolts for the gearcase to extension also.

You are supposed to replace the reverse lock springs with stronger ones too.

I just picked up everything I need for the conversion off Ebay for $59 bucks.

Thanks for the quick replies

I've heard that before, what does that little extension do and why will it not run with the hood on if not there? thx...
