Shortening a minn kota shaft

Anybody ever try shortening a minn kota shaft ? How did you go about it ? Can I dissasemble the motor, then cut the shaft, shorten the wires and put it back together. Or do I need to get a new shaft ? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Raymond...easy way is to take the top apart. Draw a wiring map before you disconnect any wires. Losen the collar around the midshaft area and slid the shaft out. Cut off what ya' have to and put it back together. Shorten wiring as needed. How much ya' gotta shorten it?

I need to shorten it 3 1/4 ". If I raise the mounting, the motor will be hanging off the side of the boat. I got a maxxumm 24v 74# for $100 brand new never used. I couldn't pass that deal up even if it is just a little too long.
