Shorter Shaft on Yamaha 4

I have a Yamaha 4 hp that I need to use on a 12 foot Alumicraft. Unfortunately, this motor was built in I'm guessing the mid-70's. It is a long shaft motor, seeing as it was on the sailmaster 22 before. I need to know if there is a way to shorten this shaft and if so then who can I contact for parts or service. If it is not possible, can I just use it carefully on the alumicraft? Thank you.

Re: Shorter Shaft on Yamaha 4

I don't think that can be shortened. It would have to have an add-on section as if it were a lengthened shortshaft model. It might be a problem finding parts anyhow. We're not talking big speed here, so go ahead and run it long. It'll just stick in the water 5" further than needed. You might consider one of theese...<br /> http://www.iboats.com/mall/index.cg... plate&**********=557737676&*******=254068923
