Question about a 77 25 hp short shaft johnson I am looking at purchasing. When you lift the motor out of the water, should there be a lock bar that keeps the motor in the up position? my newer 15hp has the lock bar but the 25hp I was looking at does not. I went to shop.evinrude.com to look at the blow out diagram but couldn't clearly identify if it should lock. thanks!

No, that motor is the older design, before the Programmed tilt lock feature.

Friction will hold it up in the water. If you have to trailer it in the up position, get yourself a Transom Saver. Or do it the old fashioned way--a broom handle on top of the stern brackets.
