Should a kill switch be installed?

Anyone out there install a kill switch in their boat? In my case we'd be talking about a 25' 1988 cuddy with an elevated bridge. Curious if this makes sense to anyone.
Thanks.

Yes it makes sense. Surprised your boat doesn't have one.

this guy didn't have a crusier, but it sure made sense for him. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1UEETjztLqI

your dangers may be different, but the ramifications could be the same.

2 fishermen died at my local lake last summer. they got ran over by there own boat. it had a kill switch but was not attached to the skipper when they were ejected.

i don't have one either in my old boat. that video sure makes me think about doing one though.

You need a kill switch so whoever is at the helm can kill all the power with a tug on the lanyard that they are attached to for safety.

Wow the guy in that video . . . That's gotta leave a mark :D

Can't say I feel sorry for Bass boats or Go fast boats with overpowered motors endangering others by driving out of control.

If one wants to be on the open ocean more power to ya, but I blame the towns that own the lakes allowing boats to go that fast on our populated lakes.
Just no need for it in my opinion.

And yes, a kill switch should be mandatory on all boats. I know this because I was once tossed out of a motorized canoe, had the lanyard but of course was not using it

They even have new ones that are radio controlled for the bigger rigs, so you don't have to be tied to your boat:

People will always test the limits of their machinery, it is human nature. Was it smart for him to cross that wake at that rate of speed? No. But he made that decision. He was saved by his vest and kill switch.

Will he think otherwise next time...you bet!;)
