Should heater exchanger be level?

I bought a non running 1985 Bayliner with an AQ125A with 270 drive. The first thing I did was pull motor to rebuild. It is now back in and as far as I can see the locator on the drive is in the recess on the bell housing, but the heat exchanger is sloping towards the starboard side. Of course I didn't take any photos before pulling and since the boat is new to me, I have no idea what it should look like. I just assumed that it would be level. Of course I haven't been able to find any photos that show the correct angle.

Could someone please open their engine cover and help me out?

Any info is appreciated.

Thanks.

Would be better if you posted a few pictures so we can see what your problem is. They are fairly level when installed.

probably level . . . or the cap end on the higher side as you would want the expanding air to be able to escape into the reservoir.

He has an old Volvo 4 cylinder and it's part of the engine. Nothing like that.

Re: Should heater exchanger be level?

I have the same exact engine and drive in my Bayliner.

The large red container in the front of the engine is actually the coolant expansion reservoir. Mine is also slightly tilted towards starboard. This ensures that the vent cap is at the highest point of the system.
The heat exchanger is the second red box that is on the side of the engine right next to the expansion reservoir. This one should be straight up and down.

Hope this helps.
