Just putting the finishing touches on my 383 stroker, i have alum intake, manifolds and heads, should i switch to a closed loop cooling system and if so any suggestions? Block only or manifold as well, see the two kits offered, whats the reason not to do the manifold, just the block
Thanks,
Peter

if you do the manifolds you'll need a bigger heat exchanger, etc... but if you go with high end aluminum manifolds, you might want to do it rather vthan let them slowly dissolve.

the biggest question is what kind of water? if fresh water, it's up to you, but I probably wouldn't. if salt water, have to.

I have aluminum intake, heads, manifolds, etc... and am running open cooling without issue. I do run zinc anodes in everything. I just had it all apart and the intake has very little real corrosion after two years of running in a mix of fresh and brackish...

Hope this is helpful...

I run only in fresh water, just about to finish up my build, head alot of good results from closed cooling system due to the corrosion inhibitor in anti-freeze that would protect the block, heads and intake. I seen one kit onlin that did block only and another that did block and exhaust. not sure if it is worth the money, another plus was a more constant engine temp. not sure where to go with this one.

I did a block only kit on a 5.7, 2 years now, no issues. I know I'll never have to worry about cracking my block in winter again...:D

I would do the full system. The engine will run better, and you can add a cabin heater and hot shower that will work better too!

I would do it without question.
