I come across what i think may be a good deal but not sure. I have never owned a Volvo Penta Inboard before. The motor runs great, th eoutdrive is good. He says it needs all new hoses. Like an exhaust bellows, and a hose that goes around a u joint in the driveshaft? Also all other hoses. He said they are bad and leak and need replaced. The motor is a AQ1 and it is the 170 hp model. I have no serial number. He wants 400 for the boat but i'm not sure how much it would cost to get all the hoses. The boat is a 1974 chrysler tri-hull with an inline 6cyl Volvo Penta AQ1 170 hp.
Should i Buy this or keep looking?

Keep looking. It'll be almost impossible to find parts for that 6cyl.

Catching up on a pile of deferred maintenance on an I/O can be very expensive. Especially an old one.

Re: Should i buy this boat?

Try searching for a boat with a mecruiser. It is much easier to find parts for. Not to mention many more mechanics to work on them. OMC, old Volvo, etc are very hard to find parts for. Newer volvo's are great, but so is the price.

120, 140, models are good, and then the classic 4.3L V6, 5.0L and 5.7L V8 are also good. When looking at the 165HP model I-6, make sure it is the old chevy 250 CI engine, those are good too.
