Should I go for it?

Alright, here is the low down. I am wanting a project (again) and I ran across this add on CL, about 2 weeks ago. Problem is I can't get it out of my head. It appears to be the exact foundation I have in my head for the fishing rig I want.

Just a couple of questions, before I commit myself to selling one of the boats I have now for this one.

1. I do not know enough about starcraft boats to know "trouble areas" that I can look for once I see the boat (if there are any).

2. Anyone able to identify the motor from this pic?

3. Anybody might know the model of Starcraft?

Looks like probably a jet or jet star, possibly Nassau. Motor looks like an older Evinrude, likely an electric shift. Starcrafts are super easy to work on. I guess the biggest problem they had were rivets leaking, but they can be rebucked and sealed with Gluvit, no big deal at all. Some still don't leak at all! I say go for it, you cant beat an old Starcraft ;) I would try to get that for around 400 bucks or so, It will likely need a new deck and transom, but maybe not.

First I would consider that a good boat with a parts motor since it is not running........ If you have access to another motor it would make a great project and those boats live forever.

My vote is a Jet Star or a Falcon

Re: Should I go for it?

Well, The wife surprised me. I caught her before she had her Morning coffee and she said that it was fine if I get it.....WITHOUT having to sell one I already have.

What I am thinking of doing with this is more of a long term resto/repower (since I already have something to get on the water with). Not sure if I would keep that motor. I will have to inspect it, compression test, check the Lower unit etc. before I commit myself to it.

I am also thinking of an aluminum floor, but not sure if the boat would handle that, and how the extra weight would effect HP and Max capacity if at all.

Looks like a good project boat. Try to get a better deal if you can, but if you like it and feel the price is not that bad then go for it. These boats are fairly easy to work on.
I have an aluminum rebuild on here: 79 Sylvan Sportster 18 open bow rebuild. There are many good threads on this site that should give you the information you need.
