Looking at a 1988? Yamaha 9.9 outboard. Model is ft9.98xf Which i believe translates to a 4 stroke 9.9 electric and manual start, X=25" shaft maybe? Looks awesome, runs great but not above idle. I know yammies have a good following, and im thinking the worst i would do is part it back out for no loss. Any thoughts?

Please check for parts availability. I have seen some people here on iboats with 4 strokes that can not get parts for some brands........ If it is not running right and parts are available (coils, carb kits, fuel pumps etc) and you can steal it..... go for it.
