1989 Mercruiser 5.0 LX Alpha One
I have inferred from several threads on here that after 5 seasons of use, I should replace my exhaust manifold risers ( as well as gaskets), no questions asked, as preventative maintenance to preclude getting a crack in them and water in the oil etc.
Is this good practice? What about removing them, having them dipped, planed and checked for cracks at a machine shop and then painted and reinstalled with new gaskets?
Im planning on doing this prior to winterization.
I dont have oil in my water and dont ever want to. I jus bought this boat last spring, one riser (starboard) runs hotter than the other and has more surface rust on it. The port one appears to be newer.
Any thoughts?
