Should I install a Fuel/Water Seperator?

I have 1983 Johnson 200 hp pushing a 20' Center Console Proline. I just bought it, and it sat since last Aug, but was winterized according to the seller. I replaced the lower fuel pump, ran better at idle. Went to replace the filter on the TOP pump, (pump looked new) and it had no gasket! Replaced screen and gasket, ran MUCH better at idle, when at home on the ears. Starts a little rough in the lake, and doesn't idle that long, (at home, I have to shut it off, it runs forever). I am also only getting about 4100 RPM's, which I know could be a few things, but.... I do not have a fuel/water seperator running from my 25 (I think) gallon tank under the Center Console, should I install one? If so, where?

Thanks a million.

to answer your question.. yes!
mine is mounted in the back of the boat just below the splashwell but above the bildge, this way if i get a leak or a mess, it goes into the bilge instead of all over the deck

Thanks Mike, it looks pretty easy to install. Thanks again, hopefully this will help.

Maestro - do a quick search on the general outboard forum - there was a discussion on filters in the past few days and lots of good info on options, installation, etc.
