i'm wantin to spash it. tomorrows forcast is 77*F, wind speeds from beaufont fresh breeze to near gale. it's only a 1800 sq acre lake, but at near gale force winds it turns white with white caps. can bounce ya around pretty good. it'd be the first dip of the season for me. seems like i'm hip boat wise, checked everything twice. but ya never know. may or may not be other folks out. if there is, i'd feel better for a rescue if there was at least one person with a power boat out. but if not. i'm on my own. if i get hosed, i could blow up on some nasty dam bolder rocks. + have a mighty cold long shoreline walk back to the marina in 38* water(just a guess, ice went out a couple weeks ago) so how causious are you. i'm pretty brave, but tommow will tell. i've been scared off the lake once with a wave runner in tow. not one soul out on the lake to rescue me, and the lake was white. i would have been alone. we've been in a storm system for a few days, tommow is probably the end of it......not gonna take (sazzy azz)the cat with me on the first ride. cats don't like wind....... she'll go next time.....:)

All depends on your confidense in your equipment and your skills. False bravado is dangerous, but being so timid you are afraid to even go out is just a waste of ownership. Gale force winds can create all kinds of interesting situations. Especially when you are taking the first run of the year.

Do you have a buddy willing to take his boat out with you. Safety in numbers you know.

We took the 12 foot vee out when there were 2 foot swells and whitecaps. As long as the bow was into the waves we could survive. We would rise up one wave, go back down, and break through the next, taking on some water, then rise up the next.

Re: should i, or shouldn't i, wind speeds, boat ride

yep, i went.... the near gale force winds were only once in a while. mostly the stiff breeze. still had some good 2'ers and whitecaps all over. this aristocraft beats the crap outa me goin into headwinds. fine other directions. it was a good day on the lake. engine died once goin out of the harbor right after i launced, no other issues. well, maybe, seems my idle is a bit variable, but i'll work on that one. 1k-400, averagin 5-700 most of the time though. temp gauge right on runnin hard or idlein, 30-40 psi oil pressure and just slightly on the + for the amp meter.
got some early season entertainment too. some cat was launchin his lund fishin rig while i was. he launched, then goes, oh. gotta put her back on the trailer.......ya know, the ol i forgot the plug trick, snicker....i had mine in....then there was putin in. fella in front of me, wellllll. there's only one dock out at the lake right now. dnr aint got the docks in yet. so this cat has his boat on docked on the starboard side, then, he loses it for some reason, now it's tied by the stern, but floated off the end of the dock so he's sideways, takein up the other side of the dock now. meanwhilest. the trailer is comeing down the ramp. hard to say which side. the fella with the boat helps the driver out and slides the trailer down the now empty side of the dock. so now he's got both sides of the only dock tied up. then, the trailer was under the dock. low water + high dock ya know....snickerin some more now, so the fella with the boat slides the trailer back onto the ramp and they finally get on the trailer.....ugh....i was next in line so had a nice seat for the entertainment........other than that, the aristocraft perfromed flawlessly, turn key starting and i don't even have that. just got done with my steak and now time to slow down from the first day out........it was a good day and somewhat exciting.......hope everyones first outing goes so well.......and yep pointer, i got confidence in my skills, and am gettin confidence in the boat. 1st time out is to me always somewhat at risk imho as the skills aint honed like usuall and the boat is comin out of winterization.......

Sounds like a good first time out, right on!
The docks at the local lake I go to, will be in on April 1st.
I booked off the whole week so I can start my boating season asap. 8)
