I'm thinking a truck with a plow. We have received about 70 in. of snow this yr., and i have two bad knees. I have been snowblowing a 14 car parking lot for the last four yr. it getting harder and harder lately.

I think it would be warranted ...

3/4 ton will do the trick.
Like TD says, also good tow vehicle if you need to.
1/2 ton won't get it.
To much weight hanging up there plus the bouncing and up and down stuff will wear a 1/2 ton out.

Don't know, Spinner ... our half ton is 20 years old, has about 150K on her, and been used almost exclusively for towing, hauling, or plowing. The cross members are starting to rust out, but the rest of her is in decent shape for a beater truck.

Is a 3/4 ton better? YES! But a decent heavy half will get the job done! For may years!

(oh, and it is an under-powered V-6! Wish it had a V-8 in her, but ... you do the best with what you got!)

Maybe one of these would do the trick.

I would like to retrofit my machine to do this on our lane.

Decent 1/2 ton is the word I think of.
I just like to have the umph under me when I am doing anything like that or towing my trailer or pulling the tractor.

Re: Should I or Shouldn't I

Gee.... if we were closer I would give you a free plow truck. I have two. I would not consider moving snow any other way. It pleases me to be able to adjust the heat when I am plowing. I have friends that use ATV's but it takes 4 times longer and about mid way through the season.... (like now) they are unable to move the banks back.

Look for a plow truck in the off season..... right now you will end up paying a premium for any rig.

Just be sure you can plan out where you are going to be putting the snow..... a plow will do some impromtu landscaping when the ground is not fully frozen.

I am using a 3/4 ton chevy long bed now and it is very close to turning around a school bus. Try to get a short wheel base. My spare rig is my 78 Bronco equipped with 3/4 tons springs all around....

A half ton pickup 20 year ago was built much heavier and tougher then the ones that build now. You really need to go back 30 years to get a really heavy duty half ton pickup.

Re: Should I or Shouldn't I

I would get a plow in a heartbeat if I had to clean that much pavement. I have been debating the issue myself....not because I have a lot to plow, but because I could make some spare cash plowing for some family and friends who own businesses.

If I had a better truck to do it with, I would have gotten one by now.
