Hello, I need a clarification on whether or not to run the gas out of the carburator on a 4-cycle Yamaha. It's a 25 hp rope start, 2003 model.

I hear pro's and con's regarding this subject.

My cousin has a 4-cycle, 50 hp Mariner, 5 yrs old. He says he was told not to run the gas out. He says he had to have carburator work done on this motor because of running the gas out when he came in from Monterey Bay.

I told him that I would post a question on 'iboats boating forum'.

Hope to hear from one of you experts out there.

Thank you.

Joe-

why bother. it wont draw the last 1/4 inch out and that is what is gonna gum ya up. treat the fuel if its going to sit for over 30 days. in fact if its going to sit over 30 days rewinterize it. all winterizing does is protect the outboard from the corrosive effects of sitting idle.
good luck and keep posting
PS if the carb has a drain then I would drain it. but you cant get all the fuel out by running it.
