I recently trade for a 1952 25hp evinrude that is in almost perfect shape. turns out the shaft is a little to short for my boat. does run good. What do you think it"s worth? I have 25.00 in it. thats what I paid for the motor I traded for it. I was thinking I would just keep it. the average joe won"t buy it for everyday use, to old. will it be worth anything a few yrs. from now to a collector?

Had same problem with short shaft engine on a long shaft transom boat, ended chopping 5" down and keeping my beloved engine. If easy to chop being a fiber glass or wooden transom go for it.

Happy Boating

no I don"t want to chop my transom, I have a longshaft motor on it now, what I was saying is in all the yrs. I have bought and sold outboards, probably 10 yrs I have never seen a 1952 25 hp. evinrude. the engine repair shop in my area said he hasn"t seen one in 25 yrs. is this something to keep for nastalga or are they more common than I think? I am not looking to make money on this, but I have sold old motors b4 that I wish I still had. like a 1950 martin that I refurbished. I still kick myself in the *** over that one.

though i dont think their a dime a dozen, i have one also .either a 52 or 53 with elect start and tiller.you will get what somebody is willing to pay .me i paid 200 ,its a regional thing i think, but i wanted it so i bought it.sorry i cant give you a better answer but outboard motors are a tuff one to pin down for value.

don"t think it"s worth alot of money, just was curious how many are still around. probably just hang on to it even if I never use it. never know when I might get another short shaft boat.

that would probably be the way I'd go under similar circumstances .... I doubt it would be a high priced collector's item for a good many years to come but to me that wouldn't be the important consideration .... if it was a motor I liked, I'd keep it
