I am working on a 1971 60hp johnson 3 cyl. motor. The motor runs but owner says the LU clunks under load. I suspect worn clutch dog, but need to tear in to find out. This motor is also an electric shift!!! I have the LU off and I also have a maunal which covers the 1971 60hp 2 cylinder w/electric shift, but not the 3 cyl version, but I am hoping they are the same LU. I have never torn clear into one, but from what reading I have done it looks like I need a puller to remove the carrier, and then some long snap righ pliers to remove the retaining rings. Are there any other special tools that I am gonna need to get to the clutch dog, assuming that all the bearings and everhthing else is in good shape? I want to know what I am getting into before I get halfway in and find out I need a tool that I dont have. I also plan on replacing the impeller and any seals because this LU also leaks water, which may be causing the electric shift not not to work properly. Any help in this matter, or wisdom working on electric shift LU's is appreciated. Thanks
