The prop to my 50 hp yamaha has some dings on the outer edge of the blades. Should I take the prop to a prop shop to have it worked on, or should I replace it and keep this one as a spare. New prop is $120 plus tax. Repair estimate is $70. Just don't know what the quality of the repair would be.

Best to just buy a new prop and keep that old one for a spare....I believe prop repairs can be more economically viable for larger/higher horsepower/stainless/expensive units.....

A picture would sure help. I'm selling a prop on ebay with what I call dings on each blade.
If they will clean up with a little filing even though slight amounts missing should be no problem.
If the prop seems to vibrate replace it.Perhaps run your performance numbers and prop size for us to see if now is the time
to make a change.

Are you presently having any issues with your prop, like vibrations or running problems? I am just wondering why you would want to change or fix your present prop if there are no issues presently. And you didn't state if your current prop was aluminum or stainless steel. If I were to need to fix or replace and only had one prop presently, I go for a new one and like Robert stated above, keep your old prop for a spare...

My guess it's aluminum, and 70 is a bit more then half. That said a good prop shop can make an aluminum prop as good as new. I use to have aluminums done quite often when running the river shallows. Also nothing wrong with getting a new one for only 120, your call,

With repairs 1/3 cost of new, the guys at general propeller know us by name. Nothing wrong with a recon'd prop
