I am putting two carbs back on a 65hp mercury and I have two new gaskets that go between carb and the block. Should I still use form a gasket to help seal the two together or put trust in the gasket. The reason I worry about it is that when I took the carbs off the gasket was in good shape but it had form on gasket on it to. Thanks Tim

All ya need is the two new gaskets. No gasket sealer there.

c/6

Hooty

Never use form a gasket where it will come in contact with gasoline..... :)

however i might be inclined to put some on the airbox to carb.. i had a leaking cowl gasket and some water slpashed in there and there was all this white lithium looking stuff everywhere, ppl say water mixed with the gas-oil... that kinda scares me..

NO sealer! new gaskets are all you need...permatex just makes a mess next time the carbs come off......nothin says 'rookie wrench' like gobs of sealer on gaskets.....

I alway put a "film" of RTV on the carb side just so I don't have to buy new gaskets everytime I take the carbs off.

Don't use it, unless you want to have bigger problems later.
