Should I use this busted part? (photo)

I'm putting my Force90 back together and the crank case was freezing up piston movement. So I took it off again and found that this expansion oil seal had busted. I'm guessing it helps oil build up and lube the bearing. It's a nightmare for me to get parts so can anyone tell me if I could get away with putting the ring and the busted bit back in?

The ring is captive in a groove so I can't see why it wouldn't work.\

Picture of broken seal..

Dont know if the crank comes apart but if it
doesnt the ring would have to be split to get it on wouldnt it?

I think that is #11 (seal, crankcase) in this picture:
www.mercruiserparts.com Force 90 HP '91

#8 is a "snap ring". Those are solid as a piston ring.

That is what we have.

If you can use it again? Can't tell before you tried. Sorry. If it was me? No I would wait for parts and replace it. If it takes weeks for delivery? I would wait anyway.
You have to replace a lot of gaskets everytime you tear it apart, don't you?

That's a seal ring and it's split and you might get away with using it broke. There's no place fot it to go but there has to be a zillion used ones out there. I don't know if they come in various thicknesses or not. Give it a try.

c/6

Hooty

Craig, I feel fer ya, man....having one little peice put a stop on the assembly is enough to make a boat wrench drink.....but you gotta get another one , you put that back in and it will jam between the crank and block, and chew the crap out of the block....it is the same part that has been used way back to the Chrysler days in the '60's...head for a boneyard for a used replacement.

Yeah, I sort of guessed - but a guy can hope can't he?

I'll start hunting for one. Last thing I want is to have to take it apart yet again.

Also, I've got a cracked magnet in the flywheel. I'm guessing that I shouldn't fix it, and that I'll need to replace the flywheel. Would that be right? Anyone know where's a good spot to hunt down a 2nd hand flywheel?

JB weld or epoxy can get you by on a cracked magnet.

If that is the seperating seal between the cylinders it is important to keep the crankase pulses to their own cylinder or a poor running condition will exist. If it is an unsplit o-ring I would imagine the crank would have to be professionally worked to seperate the sections in order to get it over the bearing OD.
