Should this hole be plugged?

I have a 1984 Evinrude 115 which I just had a lower unit installed on. My question is there is a hole in the front of the unit which streams water out of it on muffs. The hole is located just below where the lower unit and midsection are joined. My father thinks its a pickup for a speedometer. I'm just wondering should it be plugged or left alone.

If that's your boat there, then the speedo pickup is the white triangular looking thing to the right on the transom.

At the risk of repeating myself -- thats normal. Youre good to go. It shouldnt be plugged but its not a speedo pick up.

I'm having trouble describing what I'm taking about. I have a hole in my lower unit which is facing the back of the boat. The hole is located on the front face of the lower unit, It streams water out of it when run on muffs and its not one of the relief holes on the side of the lower unit. I wish I could show an exact picture of what I'm talking about but the boat is 2 hours away and I'm at work. Sorry for all the confusion.

No problem. A lot of times the water comes out there and goes directly in the drain tube. Kinda odd how that worked out.
