Just replaced my water pump (1997 90 hp spl), now I have water coming out the two "side holes" in the front of lower unit besides coming out the the center hole. Is this ok or did something slip out of place?

This sounds normal although a picture would help me to solidify my answer. Those are pressure relief and drainage holes so that water doesnt stay in waterpump when not in use. Are you getting a good stream out of the tell tale? When you are warmed up are you getting water out of the water exhaust ports indicating that the thermostat is opening?

Yes to water stream out exhaust, front hole in upper lower unit, and "pee" tube. T-stats are opening. Water never came out these two other holes before but they were plugged with oil sludge..that's why the concern now that something didn't seal and was leaking internally..but those two holes are there for a reason :)

To make sure, we're on same page the holes are on the left and right side of upper portion of the lower unit just in front of the two retaining bolts, facing the transom. There is a relief hole in the directly in the center front of the lower unit and it is draining as it always has (these holes are just behind on left and right side). i didn't see any reference in the manual to waterflow through these two holes......

They will flow when the motor is on muffs, especially when the muffs are hooked up and the motor is off. This is totally normal. If your motor is running cool then you have absolutely nothing to worry about.

Yep, on muffs. Thanks for the reassuring input, was worried I'd got an o'ring out of place. Will take to river now to check out.
