Hi guys,
We have a Johnson j70elcnb motor and I wanted to check something with you guys...After a run the other day, we put on the ear muffs and ran the engine(at idle) to clean out the salt.

As expected, water ran out of various areas as it should. In one of the areas, the water ran pretty hot. I don't remember if the water ran hot when rinsing before and if it should be this way?

The water was coming out of the 6 holes above the prop. I've included a pic below. The water was hot, but not even close enough to scald. All the other areas where water was coming out was cold...

Just wanted to make sure this was expected...:D Thanks in advance for the advice!

I may get whacked for not knowing what I am talking about but these holes are probably drains for your midsection where cooling water is mixed with engine exhaust to keep the midsection cool. The heat comes from the exhaust, and some of it could also come from your thermostat discharge which would be at thermostat opening temp (approx 140F). The rest of it would come out your prop hub.

The water coming out down by the prop should be hot (if hot is around 140 degrees F). It is the water that comes out of the telltale that is not hot because that water is discharged before going through the cylinder water jacket.

Ok, thanks for the assurance guys! I wasn't sure if it had been running that hot before when flushing the engine(couldn't remember) and wanted to make sure this wasn't something new...
