Another guy aspiring to be a tech posted his first box. Lets all show our box's... I've been drooling over the Snap On war wagon for years... anyone got it? Don S, Bond-o, Rodbolt?????? I'm still looking for another heavy gauge steel locker if anybodys got one (that 1 in the pic is from the 40's and used to be dull grey, fairly heavy) The only ones I see used are all light gauge office type stuff.
The upper and lower craftsman boxes... I got those for a steal. I had a similar lower box that I bought 10+ years ago for 500ish, it was a ball bearing model. Retail on the same box now is 800ish. I had a smaller upper box that was like 200 or so also, non ball bearing. I sold them both for 500.
The set in the pic I bought new this year on craftsman club special for 799 both the upper and lower. Both with ball bearings and both with grip latch. (over loaded drawers stay shut). Only problem was the set was only available in black on black. It was nothing some sandpaper, 5 cans of rustoleum sunrise red, 2 cans of clear coat, and some auto wax couldn't fix though :)
So the craftman boxes were 299 plus 50 bucks in paint. The steel locker was free with a few bucks spent in paint. The dam snap on service cart was like 350 or something.

The last time i asked that question i got smacked....;)

I have a huge Snap On tool box that was passed down from my dad before he died. Its in storage right now but one of my projects this summer is to sand it and repaint it like new. They don't make them that heavy anymore.
Its at least 40 years old and all the drawers work perfect.

I have a Kennedy roll around, riser, and tool box. I worked for many years in a machine shop and those were the tool box of choice for the machinist's there. Currently it's up at my lake house. I am going up this weekend and will take pictures then.

Having said that, if I were wealthy and could afford anything I would go with a Gerstner setup. They are absolutely the most beautiful tool boxes made IMO. They are truly works of art (for the toolbox lovers). If you are unfamiliar with Gerstners then go to

Re: Show us your box!!!!!!!!!!!!

i have a blue point with snap-on ballbearing drawers.

i got it on a payment plan from the snap-on truck when i worked at ford back in '99 or '00.................and i thought my wife was going to divorce me too :D

a good tool box is a must........my blue point takes 2 people to remove the top box....without tools in it

ill have to clean it up some before im willing to take pics of it.

if you have anyone helping you or pretending to help you make sure you inform them not to open all the drawers at once........................yes it has happened to me a few times. i got the same response every time----------"duh why did it do that?" and then "why dont you bolt it to the wall or at least put a safety strap on it?"............only to get my unpleasant returns which are to profane to post

looks like you are well on your way to a good collection................ive been collecting tools since i was 13........wish i kept up with my tools then as good as i do now.....i would probably need 4 or 5 boxes.

have you ever noticed no matter how many tools you have and no mattter how much money you spend you are always needing to borrow or buy another tool???

My rule is if I have to borrow a tool more than 2 times I buy one. unless it is something like a scan tool. I don't do any side work other than for family so I don't need much

Re: Show us your box!!!!!!!!!!!!

A guy I work with has the tool wagon, is it similar to the war wagon? Man what a pain to move around. It doesn't turn sharp and is not easily moved, spite the pneumatic tires. Its an overpriced box IMHO, and WHY does it need disk brakes?? I'd spend the money on a box with casters on both ends if it needs to be moved much.

I have a Mac Economizer 4000, but no pictures of it since its at work. My home box is just a bunch of craftsmans stacked together.

thats a good rule to follow ........if it works out.

ive been in a few situations where nobody had the tool i needed and had to buy one anyway.

i have a few specialty tools ive only ever used once

that also reminds me of my rule: if it breaks while taking it apart it costs you the extra to fix it---- if it breaks during re-assembly it costs me the extra to fix it ................ ive only ever had one complaint about broken bolts, because after that one i give the rule straight up before i turn one bolt.

Re: Show us your box!!!!!!!!!!!!

Not the best shot of the Matco box but here it is.
A good test of a quality box is open the bottom drawer and stand on it. if it folds up don't buy it.
